data after millions of Facebook users&#8217; phone numbers and other private info was given away online for free.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s Data Protection Commission (DPC) also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dataprotection.ie\/en\/news-media\/press-releases\/data-protection-commission-announces-decision-in-facebook-data-scraping-inquiry\" rel=\"nofollow\">ordered<\/a> the social media giant to implement a &#8220;range of corrective measures&#8221; Ireland&#8217;s data privacy agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dataprotection.ie\/en\/news-media\/press-releases\/dpc-launches-inquiry-facebook-relation-collated-dataset-facebook-user-personal-data-made-available\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The DPC&#8217;s data-scraping decision comes less than a week after a US District Court judge <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/11\/28\/facebook_holper\/\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled in Meta&#8217;s favor<\/a> against a Belarusian developer who allegedly used a network of bots and Instagram accounts he controlled to deliver millions of automated likes to his customers&#8217; accounts.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Judge William Alsup also ordered Nikolay Holper to pay Meta damages just under $200,000: $100,000.00 in statutory damages for cybersquatting; $89,351.00 in attorney&#8217;s fees;
