Google Assistant software is available on mobile and smart home devices and can help you accomplish tasks around your house. These eight Google Assistant features will help you focus, stay organized, enter periods of deep work, and maintain overall high productivity during the workday.

Create Calendar Events

Working from home requires you to exercise good time management skills. If you’re like most people, it can be challenging to stick to a set schedule while trying to stay productive there.

With Google Assistant, you can create specific events for each day of the week, allowing you to manage your calendar easily. You can check shared calendars, add to your calendar anytime, and take charge of your schedule.

Make Reminders

A busy schedule can quickly become overwhelming, even for the most productive and experienced employees. You likely have more responsibilities than working, such as picking up your child from school, driving them to doctor appointments, or bringing the dog to the vet.

Instead of relying on your memory to complete these tasks, use Google Assistant to set daily reminders. You can also ask it in the morning, “Hey Google, give me an overview of my day.” Listing everything you need to accomplish and asking your device to remind you at specific times will help you maintain productivity.

Take Notes

Taking notes about projects helps you remain productive and stay organized, especially when you have multiple tasks going on at once. Sometimes, stepping away from your laptop or desktop to write down important notes can be difficult. Instead, use Google Assistant to do the notetaking for you.

Google Assistant can take notes for you — all you have to do is talk to it. This will help you keep track of projects, remember key details, organize research, and more.

Hands-off Calls

Google Assistant allows you to make, answer or reject phone calls without even picking up your Android. You can confidently ask Google Assistant to call someone in your contacts without using your phone.

Unfortunately, homes can be full of distractions when you work from there, so keeping your phone in another room could help you stay focused. After making a call, you might linger too long on your mobile device and start using social media or texting friends. Use Google Assistant instead to get in touch with other people at a moment’s notice.

Ask Questions

No matter what job you have, you likely have multiple questions pop up throughout the day. Instead of opening a new tab and typing your question into Google’s search engine, try asking your Google Assistant.

The device will search your question, find accurate answers, and give you crucial details. This feature allows you to remain on task and maintain high productivity levels. You can also ask Google Assistant, “Hey Google, where’s my phone?” if you misplace it somewhere in your house.

Order Office Supplies

Even though you’re working from home, you still need some basic office supplies to keep you productive. If you realize you’re out of staples, pens, or sticky notes, you can ask Google Assistant to order some.

It’s important to mention that this feature will only work if you’ve already set up your financial details through Google. Still, once you do that, you’ll be able to order more office supplies without spending time shopping online.

Play Music

Sadly, Google Assistant cannot ask your neighbors to stop landscaping in the middle of the day or request the construction crew outside to stop jackhammering. But, it is possible to ask it to turn on white noise or other enjoyable sounds to enhance your focus.

Playing music can help increase your productivity and keep you on task. One suggestion is to listen to instrumental music or soundtracks of your favorite movies. Avoid listening to songs that make you want to get up and dance. Video game music is designed to keep you on task without distraction and makes for an excellent productivity option as well.

Set Alarms and Timers

Even the most high-performing employees will face challenges maintaining their productivity. Google Assistant can set timers and alarms throughout the day, allowing you to take short but much-needed work breaks.

For example, you can ask the device to set a timer for 25 minutes. Focus on your work for that period, but take a five-minute break when the timer rings. Follow this process four times, and you’ve completed the Pomodoro Technique—a tried and tested practice to help with productivity.

Use Your Google Assistant to Boost Productivity

In the age of remote work, it’s never been more important to be mindful of your productivity. Your house probably has several distractions preventing you from getting essential tasks done. If you have a Google Assistant, consider using the tips above to boost your productivity while working from home.
