A new round of bans, announced on February 14, listed 54 more apps on grounds they endangered users&#8217; privacy by sending data to servers in China.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those apps are owned and operated by Singaporean company SEA, which on the day of the new bans warned players of the popular game &#8220;Free Fire&#8221; that the software had been pulled by Indian app stores.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"condor\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n        <noscript><br \/>\n            <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_software\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Yhx4Eq7g1ZaMtM5wykZU@gAAAIA&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_software\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=2&amp;c=2Yhx4Eq7g1ZaMtM5wykZU@gAAAIA&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D2%26raptor%3Dcondor%26pos%3Dtop%26test%3D0\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n        <\/noscript>\n    <\/div>\n<p>In a refreshingly brief <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sea.com\/media\/218\" rel=\"noopener\">canned statement<\/a>, the company offered the following:<\/p>\n<p>SEA also makes a popular shopping app named Shopee, which does a healthy trade in India. Market reports from the likes of Sensor Tower <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wap.business-standard.com\/article-amp\/companies\/singapore-based-shopee-takes-india-s-e-commerce-market-by-storm-122012200021_1.html\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> Shopee was the second most downloaded app in India for the month of January \u2013 lagging only behind homegrown Indian e-commerce company Meesho. Tencent did recently <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/realmoney.thestreet.com\/investing\/global-equity\/tencent-reduces-another-portfolio-stake-with-sale-of-sea-ltd-shares-15875628\" rel=\"noopener\">sell<\/a> a chunk of its shares, to reduce its holding from 31.3 per cent to 18.7 per cent of stock, and voting power below ten per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Late last week <em>Reuters<\/em> returned to the ban of Free Fire, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/exclusive-singapore-flags-concern-india-over-ban-seas-game-sources-2022-02-24\/\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting<\/a> that Singapore&#8217;s government has been in touch with Indian officials to complain about the ban, seeing as SEA is Singaporean.<\/p>\n<p>SEA&#8217;s share price bounced on the news.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n            <noscript><br \/>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_software\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44Yhx4Eq7g1ZaMtM5wykZU@gAAAIA&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_software\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44Yhx4Eq7g1ZaMtM5wykZU@gAAAIA&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n            <\/noscript>\n        <\/div>\n<p>But government intervention may not be the only reason for the rise. SEA&#8217;s stock fell steadily from October 19 2021 until last Friday, going from an all-time closing high of almost $370 that day in October to $120 on February 23.
