Every computer contains at least one processor, also known as a CPU<\/a> or central processing unit.\u00a0Your computer\u2019s CPU is probably made by Intel or AMD. Here\u2019s how to see what CPU you have and how fast it is.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need a system information utility to find this information. Windows shows it in several different places.<\/p>\n

To find this information in Windows 10\u2019s Settings app, navigate to Settings > System > About. Look under \u201cDevice specifications.\u201d The name of your computer\u2019s processor and its speed are displayed to the right of \u201cProcessor.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can press Windows+i to open the Settings app quickly. You can also press the Windows key, type \u201cAbout\u201d to search your Start menu for this settings screen, and click the \u201cAbout This PC\u201d shortcut that appears.<\/p>\n

\"Processor<\/p>\n

Windows 10\u2019s Task Manager shows detailed CPU information, too. Right-click your taskbar and select \u201cTask Manager<\/a>\u201d or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch it. Click the \u201cPerformance\u201d tab and select \u201cCPU.\u201d The name and speed of your computer\u2019s CPU appear here. (If you don\u2019t see the Performance tab, click \u201cMore Details.\u201d)<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also see real-time CPU usage data and other details, including the number of cores your computer\u2019s CPU has.<\/p>\n

Windows 7\u2014or Windows 10\u2014users can find this information in the Control Panel. Specifically, it\u2019s on the system pane. Head to Control Panel > System and Security > System to open it. You can also press Windows+Pause on your keyboard to instantly open this window.<\/p>\n

Your computer\u2019s CPU model and speed are displayed to the right of \u201cProcessor\u201d under the System heading.<\/p>\n

If Windows isn\u2019t booting on your system, you can still find this information in several other ways. Your computer\u2019s documentation likely includes system specification details like this. You may also find this information displayed in your computer\u2019s BIOS or UEFI firmware settings screen<\/a>.<\/p>\n
