The iPhone 6 Plus, Apple\u2019s most bendable phone<\/a>, is now considered a \u201cvintage\u201d product. It\u2019s just a few years from joining Apple\u2019s list of \u201cobsolete\u201d products, at which point the company will stop servicing the phone at authorized repair centers.<\/p>\n

While most companies wipe their hands of any discontinued products, Apple likes to categorize its old stuff as \u201cvintage\u201d or \u201cobsolete.\u201d Here\u2019s the gist; after five to seven years of pulling a product from store shelves, that product joins the \u201cvintage\u201d list. The iPhone 6 Plus launched in 2014 but was discontinued in 2016, so it fits the bill. (Notably, the basic iPhone 6 is not \u201cvintage\u201d yet. That\u2019s because Apple brought it back as a budget option in 2017.)<\/p>\n

\u201cVintage\u201d products no longer receive software support, though of course, the iPhone 6 Plus hasn\u2019t had an update since 2019. And while Apple will try to offer hardware repairs for \u201cvintage\u201d devices, the company can\u2019t always guarantee that it has the parts to perform these repairs.<\/p>\n

To clarify, the iPhone 6 Plus still works. Apple doesn\u2019t have a kill switch for your old-as-hell phone.<\/p>\n

After seven or more years of discontinuing a product, that product becomes \u201cobsolete\u201d to Apple. The company will not offer any support or repairs for \u201cobsolete\u201d products. (To Apple\u2019s credit, there aren\u2019t many companies that support discontinued products for up to seven years.)<\/p>\n
