A bootable Windows 11 USB drive is the best way to install Windows 11. (Who wants to burn a DVD<\/a>?) You can easily create one with a flash drive, a free download from Microsoft, and a Windows PC.<\/p>\n

What You\u2019ll Need<\/h2>\n

To use the Media Creation Tool, you need a PC running Windows 10 or 11 as well as a USB drive that is eight gigabytes or larger. An external solid-state drive<\/a> (SSD) or external hard disk drive<\/a> (HDD) would also suffice.<\/p>\n

Tip:<\/strong> Before you try to use the bootable drive, check if your PC can run Windows 11<\/a>. If it can\u2019t, you should read about how to install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Creating a Bootable USB Drive<\/h2>\n

Microsoft provides an application to automatically create a bootable Windows 11 USB drive<\/a> on their website. Scroll down until you see a section titled \u201cCreate Windows 11 Installation Media.\u201d Then, under that, click \u201cDownload Now.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it finishes downloading, hit Ctrl+J to open the downloads menu on your browser. Every browser is a little different, but you\u2019re looking for a file named \u201cMediaCreationToolW11.exe.\u201d Click it to start the installation.<\/p>\n

The first page is the terms and conditions \u2014 just hit \u201cAccept.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next page has a few options \u2014 if you\u2019d like to install Windows 11 in a different language, untick the box \u201cUse the recommended options for this PC\u201d and select a language. Otherwise, click \u201cNext.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ensure \u201cUSB Flash Drive\u201d is selected, then click \u201cNext.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warning:<\/strong> Using the Windows Media Creation Tool will wipe everything<\/em> on the USB drive you choose. Be absolutely sure there is nothing important on the drive before proceeding past this point.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Select the USB drive you want, and then click \u201cNext.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now wait. The Media Creation Tool will download Windows 11 from Microsoft\u2019s servers. This may take a while depending on your internet speed<\/a>. When it is done, click \u201cFinish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Safely eject the drive by clicking the small USB icon on your taskbar, and then by clicking the name of the USB drive.<\/p>\n
