But then the section ramps up, as follows.<\/p>\n<p>A quick reminder: since the late 1990s, India has championed outsourcing IT services and profited mightily as a result. The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the industry&#8217;s lobby group, claims the sector is worth $194 billion a year to India, or eight per cent of gross domestic product, despite the 4.47 million professionals it employs representing less than one per cent of India&#8217;s workforce. It doesn&#8217;t specify whether the guidance is needed because India&#8217;s financial service sector lacks the skill to conduct proper oversight of outsourcers, or if outsourcers&#8217; practices mean they warrant scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the reason, the RBI will therefore soon issue a document titled <i>Reserve Bank of India (IT Outsourcing) Directions, 2022<\/i>.<\/p>\n<div aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"adun\" data-pos=\"top\" data-raptor=\"falcon\" data-xsm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-sm=\",fluid,mpu,\" data-md=\",fluid,mpu,\">\n            <noscript><br \/>\n                <a href=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/jump?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44YgnY8O2lHcpL-Ct1Fxcf3QAAAAc&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D4%26raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/pubads.g.doubleclick.net\/gampad\/ad?co=1&amp;iu=\/6978\/reg_security\/front&amp;sz=300x50%7C300x100%7C300x250%7C300x251%7C300x252%7C300x600%7C300x601&amp;tile=4&amp;c=44YgnY8O2lHcpL-Ct1Fxcf3QAAAAc&amp;t=ct%3Dns%26unitnum%3D426raptor%3Dfalcon%26pos%3Dmid%26test%3D0\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n            <\/noscript>\n        <\/div>\n<p>India&#8217;s finance sector will also have <i>Reserve Bank of India (Information Technology Governance, Risk, Controls and Assurance Practices) Directions, 2022<\/i> to ponder, as the RBI also feels the time has come to update and consolidate its guidance for &#8220;Information Security Governance and Controls, Business Continuity Management and Information Systems Audit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Statement does not mention when either document will be published.<\/p>\n<p>The RBI&#8217;s not just worried about outsourcing: governor Shaktikanta Das last week staged a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Hy_xD16nOyA\" rel=\"noopener\">video Q&amp;A with media<\/a> to discuss India&#8217;s planned <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2022\/02\/02\/india_budget_2022\/\" rel=\"noopener\">digital rupee<\/a> and hefty tax on cryptocurrency profits.<\/p>\n<p>During that session, Das likened cryptocurrencies to Tulip Mania \u2013 the frenzied trade in flower bulbs that cratered the Dutch economy in the 17th century.
