It has since <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASAInSight\/status\/1483854173451866114\">clawed its way back<\/a> to a semblance of normal operations as the storm settled but&#8230; well&#8230; just look at it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"CaptionedImage Border Center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mailinvest.blog\/wp-content\/themes\/breek\/assets\/images\/transparent.gif\" data-lazy=\"true\" data-src=\"https:\/\/regmedia.co.uk\/2022\/02\/09\/mars_insight.jpg?x=648&amp;y=648&amp;infer_y=1\" alt=\"Mars InSight Dust\" title=\"Mars InSight Dust\" height=\"648\" width=\"648\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"text_center\">Snapped by InSight&#8217;s Instrument Deployment Camera (IDC) Credit: NASA\/JPL-Caltech<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The above image was transmitted to Earth last weekend and, unless a passing dust devil clears away some of the grot, it appears the lander&#8217;s days are numbered.<\/p>\n<p>NASA&#8217;s engineers remain optimistic and a spokesperson from JPL told <i>The Register<\/i> the team was assessing the effects of the latest dust dump and reckoned that the impact appeared small. However, &#8220;it can take many weeks for all of the dust to settle out of the atmosphere, and we won&#8217;t know the full extent of the reduction in power for some time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>InSight is on borrowed time.
